Theo - It's Short For Theoretical

July 30, 2008

So.

I have a pet turtle.

Yes, many people find that quite strange.  I think I do as well.

His name is Theo - which is short for Theodore (His name was recently changed to Theoretical thought - just an FYI).  I purchased him at a Florida giftshop.  This was probably illegal, but the stores get away with it by using the "educational purposes" card.  I felt bad for the little turtles...probably about 100 of them in a tank that's way too small.  I had a turtle in the past, but let is go into a friend's fish pond when it got very large.  So I had the soft spot, and the little turtles totally made me cave in.

Now he's really hyper.

I'm glad I got him though.  He's an easy pet, adorable, and always listens.  And he jumps off his rock and swims over to me when I get home.  I promise I'm not crazy.

I think that Theo lives a pretty exciting life for a turtle.  He's only been my pet for four months, and he's already experienced all of these exciting things:

- Having a song re-written exclusively for him.  He my baby Theo.
- Video chatting with several different people, and attempted video chats with Aaron Carter and Perez Hilton.  I think that rocks.
- Lived in Florida, Nashville, and Brooklyn.  Made the road trips with me, and even took a crazy trip through Manhattan.  His water was splashing everywhere during this trip.
- Gotten the house to himself for several weeks in a row while I went on vacation.
- His own Facebook page dedicated to him, and a steady flow of incoming tribute photos.

Below are some pictures of my little baby - you know you love him!

Michelle said: I had a turtle that looked exactly like Theo when I was in college. Her name was Talulah. She was fabulous and now lives in Staten Island in my friend Charlie's' Brothers terrarium (is that the right word?) Long Live the Illegal Turtles! :)
shelia said: i had a Red-eared Slider when i was eight, really good days during i was his lord, and then, five years later, i set he(she) free, i always remember he(she) turns back and nods me to present his(her) respect while i put him(her) to the water. it's true story not fake! interesting right?:0)
Leslie Dungo said: i also want to have one.. but I'm afraid that i won't be able to give it the a nice home.. i think Theo is really lucky to have a loving human to take care of him..
Daniel Oakley said: Theoretical? Wow! Cassie, I really do have a big impact in your life due to my randomness. May you continue to be blessed. : )
Jez Ashurst said: Cute turtle! I'm jealous. I don't have a pet at the moment as i'm away too much, but reading your blog reminded me of my sadly departed pet hamster Horace. He only had three legs so the guy in the pet shop gave me 25% off. he was a fine (if slightly unbalanced) creature.
Cassie Petrey said: The story about the hamster just made me laugh really really hard. AMAZING.
Cassie Petrey said: Daniel Oakley - you are so modest.
Katrina said: The name's Theodore reminds me of one of the show "Alvin and the Chipmunk". But the turtle's cute! :D I have a pet hamster and she's very hyper too. :D
