Definitely, Maybe
February 17, 2008
I like to spend my Sunday afternoons being a bit lazy. Reading the paper, some coffee, some cheap lunch at the nearby diner, or catching a matinée movie by myself. I just got back from seeing "Definitely, Maybe" and I honestly haven't heard that many sniffles since I saw Titanic opening night in New York in 1997 on my first trip to New York. I thought it was a nice story for a Sunday afternoon. Ryan Reynolds has definitely put the "Van Wilder" character in the closet, and Abigail Breslin did a very nice job as well. I highly recommend this movie to just about anyone.
AFTER THE MOVIE. I was walking back to my apartment and I saw a man fumbling with some change trying to pay a parking meter for his car. I gave it a thought and decided to be a nice person and tell him he doesn't have to pay on Sundays. Immediately he got a bit huffy and said "Yes you do!!! That blue car just got a ticket!!". I said yes they did, but they are parking in a "No Standing Anytime" spot, and pointed out the big red sign labeling this zone to not park in. "Whatever kid, better to be safe than sorry". While I agree with that mentality, the signs were there, in black and white, well red and white for this matter, and a kind person (myself) points it out, you should be in the clear, and no reason to be rude. Manners have been thrown out the door in NYC. Kind of like the time I held a door for someone at a Dunkin' Donuts and they looked at me like I was a terrorist.
Hope everyone is well and thanks for listening to my little rant!!

It really is a shame that some people just can't appreciate nice people these days with a smile and a simple "thank you". You always have to be up to something, you know? Just last week I was at the mall and got stuck in the middle of an ice storm. One lady was waiting to cross the street as I walked out and she gave me a heads up that the sidewalks and streets were a sheet of ice. I said thank you, and as I was bundling myself up to go to my car a man and I assume his wife walked out of the mall and I told them what that lady told me, and they just looked at me like I was crazy.
I didn't really understand why, if she hadn't told me I would have walked out and broken a bone. Maybe one day we'll be living in a world where everyone will help each other out and appreciate it. Just maybe. In the mean time, I'll just stick to being a nice person whether they appreciate it or not, you never know when you're making someone's day.
Anyway, I was really hoping to go see Definately, Maybe this weekend, but I couldn't find anyone to go with me. Hm, maybe next weekend.

I read TOL blogs for that one line that I can take with me and quote time and time again... "Kind of like the time I held a door for someone at a Dunkin' Donuts and they looked at me like I was a terrorist."
Not that quoting this out of context would make much sense. Maybe Cathy will get the joke.
