Abra-Cadabra!!!

Magicians use a term called "slight of hand", in which they way their hands move they cause you to get distracted by one hand, while the other is doing something very important to the trick.
If we learned to follow the less flashy hand you can figure out a majority of tricks.
I think to many Christians set their eyes on the 'flashy' role models. We are paying attention to the people that call attention to themselves, when we should be learning from the humble servants.
To many times do I see so many kids faith fall apart when they see their favorite Christian celebrity, athlete or band member 'messing up'.
I don't know what troubles me more: Seeing such huge role models not realize their influence or seeing so many kids find their influence in someone because they are good at playing an instrument or sport.
Either way it happens to often.
You know what is sad? There is someone you know personally, as a friend, a family friend, someone that goes to your church, or someone you work with that you can learn tremendous amounts from.
You might see someone everyday that is on his way to volunteering help feed the homeless, or someone that is working two jobs so there second paycheck can free sex slaves in India.
And you fail to hear what they can teach you because you are listening to your ipod with 'semi-inspiring' lyrics.
We are watching the hand that is doing nothing for God/People only because it is calling more attention to itself while the other hand is doing the most important things we can learn.
Are your role models seeking fame, or seeking more of an opportunity to serve more people?
The Pharisees prayed publicly, gave to the poor so all could see, did everything with the intent for people to think they are great people.
Biblically look at everything the Pharisees did, and realize that there are too many people just like that today. If you look at what they did, we would also think they were amazing. Because they knew their scriptures, they went to church every time they could, they obeyed the laws of God strictly. The only reason have a problem with them is because Jesus did.
Search really long in the Bible and ask yourself, "then what did God/Jesus want of us?"
"the greatest among you will be your servant" -Jesus (He meant it because that's what He came to the world to do.
Don't follow the hand that wants you to follow it.
Follow the hand that humbly does it's job.
your friend,
-Isaac

That's a really good point. O: After reading this blog I took a moment to think about this. What you described is so very true. Lot's of people watch the more flashy hand. (I'm guilty too)
Lot's of less conspicuous (spellig?) people do amazing things but aren't ever seen because everyone's attention is on the "flashy people"
I wish I could find a way to help convey your message. (hehe sorry it just really got me thinking)
The Family Force 5 is my flashy role model. :]
