Funny how our faith works
October 25, 2007
If something is funny to us, we laugh at it.
Laughter happens to be reaction to something we believe is funny.
We don't laugh at jokes that don't make sense to us, unless we are trying to impress those around us.
How differently should we treat Jesus (I am making an analogy of course).
We should allow our beliefs become a reaction.
Something we hear or read about God makes sense to us, we should react.
Love on another as yourself, love your enemies. It makes sense on how you can change the world with this, but are we really reacting to this knowledge? We think so often "this is a great idea" but don't change our lives.
I started realising the most important thing that God did when He came onto this earth is to tell us to 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself'. I honestly believe this is the meaning of life (if you read my past blogs you can see me talk about it, though I wonder if you see me live my life if you can watch me act it) either way I tried to be nicer and kinder and 'loving' towards people even those I didn't get along with.
I also loved telling people how much contentment there is in doing these two things, that really it doesn't matter if you have a great job, nice girl, nice things, there is so much fufilment in doing what we are commanded to do. I began to mention this to people and to people that don't take God's comands seriously (notice I don't just say non-Christians because we Christians don't take it to seriously either) I would hence the second part, loving people.
Which now I realise my blunder and realise the most important part is the Loving God part, after He will give you love for people. Loving people as yourself isn't limited to an action.
We hear the verse 'be kind to your enemies and in doing so you reap hot coals on their head' Are we kind to people to see them suffer? Do we want to see hot coals on their head? From a mewithoutYou lyric, "we talked about the second and third, when we haven't understood the first" we are talking about loving people without loving God.
I believe if we love God THEN AFTER love people, we will really love people. And I think the whole hot coals on their head thing is more like, you will put something on their mind they can hardly ignore. You will put the thought of love on their head.
Everything makes sense, but we fail to react to it.
To many people who claim Christianity will loose their faith when their house burns down or something.
Woe to us for loosing our faith when finally we can use it.
We have faith in so much of this world and so little (if any) on God. When He forces us to have our faith on Him that's when we don't loose our faith in Him but really see how little (if any) we really had in the first place.
God says he will take care of us.
We think that means we will have a lexus and mansion if we do His will.
When we do His will I wonder if we should have either!
I'm trying to wrap this up sooner but the words are-a-flowin'.
There is a story of Jesus walking up to a cripple and says "your sins are forgiven"
Imagine being a cripple and seeing Jesus and he says that to you, instead of healing you!
Since Jesus is God how much should we see this as "there is way more important things than if you are cripple or homeless or poor"
Jesus did end up healing the cripple. But I think he wanted to get the priorities straight.
Make sure that you aren't worried about loosing your house, your family, your legs, your sight, but most importantly making sure your heart is right, and your actions follow.
I leave with this...
"test after test shows that the people inside the church live their lives the same as those outside the church"
We are walking around saying something is hilarious but never laughing at it.
Lets react to what our minds are convinced of.
your friend,
-Isaac

That's alot to digest right there. As I read I just think, wow you sure have put all the right things first and figured out what the wrong things are. I hope one day I can see these things the same way you do. Rather than reading a blog to know them, I want to already have these things known to me. Thankyou so much for blogging. You don't even realize how much I've changed in the past hour just by reading these and reflecting.
