Christianity is really focused on saying "this is spiritual" and "this isn't spiritual". But in the Jewish belief, everything is spiritual, and everything is about God, and you can learn from God from just using the bathroom, and learn about how your body takes the vitamins from certain parts of the food and it goes through your large intestine, small intestine, then out of your body comes all the stuff it didn't use.
There is a verse that says "pray without ceasing" I think it goes beyond talking to God, prayer should be a conversation, prayer without ceasing means to listen to what God has for you to hear every minute of every day.
Listen to how he is trying to speak to you through this or that.
Also don't read into things to much that every bad thing that happens you are thinking He is trying to say He is mad at you and punishing you, I've done that before.

About a week or two ago my mom came and picked me up to go to the mall and I found out that her and her new roommate were doing drugs. (they were doing them while taking me to the mall) when I got their I asked my friends to give me some time alone and I sat outside just wondering why is God mad at me and my mom. But then a group of thugs came over and asked me to sit with them. Of course from the look of them I thought they'd mug me, but it turned out they supported me and were really amazing people. I'm not sure if this story relates entirely to what you were saying, but it seemed to me that He was trying to speak to me.
